Well, I heard some folks talkin’ ’bout public basketball courts near me. Lord knows I ain’t played basketball since I was a little girl, but I reckon it’s good for young’uns to have a place to run around and shoot some hoops. If you lookin’ for some place to play basketball, this is what you want to know, I think.
This place, that place, all got them courts, I guess. Some good, some not so good. But you gotta find one close to ya, right? That’s the most important thing. Don’t want to be walkin’ all day just to bounce a ball. Now, how you gonna find them? Where I live, there are basketball courts everywhere.
First thing, you just ask around. Ask your neighbors, ask your friends, ask them kids down the street playin’ all the time. They know where the good public basketball courts is. They know where the hoops ain’t bent, where the ground ain’t all cracked up, stuff like that. People around you, they all know these things, just ask them, you will know where to go.
Then there’s that thing, that interweb thing, they talkin’ ’bout now. You know, the Google. You can type in “public basketball courts near me” and it’ll show you a whole bunch of places. Even shows you pictures, ain’t that somethin’? But pictures ain’t everything. I am old, but I know these.
Some courts, they inside. Some outside. Inside ones, you gotta pay, I think. Like at them gyms, or them…what you call ’em…community centers? They fancy, I reckon. Got all sorts of stuff. But you gotta pay. That’s how it goes, I guess. Outside ones is free. I like free. Always have, always will. When I was young, I always play outside.
Now, what makes a good court? Well, for starters, the hoop’s gotta be straight. Ain’t no good shootin’ at a crooked hoop. And the ground, it can’t be all bumpy and cracked. You gonna twist your ankle. And lines, gotta have them lines painted on there so you know where to stand and all that. These are important, if the hoop is not straight, how to play.
- Hoop gotta be good.
- Ground gotta be flat.
- Need them lines.
- And you need some good folks to play with, not them troublemakers.
Oh, and them big cities. New York, Chicago, LA, all them. Heard they got lots of courts there. ‘Cause lots of people live there, I suppose. Makes sense. More people, more courts. But probably crowded, I bet. Too many people in them cities. You can find basketball courts in these big cities, but not easy I think.
And what about that ground? I heard some is grass, some is that black stuff, what you call it? Asphalt. Yeah, asphalt. Some say asphalt is the best. I don’t know nothin’ ’bout that. Just don’t want no cracks, that’s all. Grass is okay, I guess, but gets muddy when it rains. And you will fall. Oh, and there is concrete. That is hard, if you fall, that will be painful.
And them Koreans, they playin’ basketball now too. Got their own teams and everything. Who woulda thought? World’s gettin’ smaller, I tell ya. Everybody playin’ basketball these days. It’s a good game, I guess. Keeps you outta trouble.
Where you gonna shoot from? Well, right under the basket is easiest, I reckon. But them other fellas, they gonna be blockin’ ya. So you gotta shoot from the side, maybe. They say 45 degrees. What’s that? I don’t know. Just gotta find a good spot and let ‘er fly, I guess. You should find a good basketball court, then you can practice, and you will know how to shoot.
Now, if you a youngin, and you good, some folks might get mad, try to mess you up, watch out. There always be bad folks, just avoid them, find some good folks to play with. Don’t matter if they’s different skin, long as they can play, and is nice. That’s all that matters.
Most important thing, you just gotta get out there and play. Don’t matter if you ain’t good. Just have fun. That’s what it’s all about. And get some exercise. Lord knows we all need that. Get off them phones and computers and go outside. Fresh air is good for ya.
