So, I’ve been diving into this whole basketball coaching thing in Guwahati lately, and let me tell you, it’s been quite the ride. I figured, why not share my little adventure with you all? It all started a few weeks back when I got this itch to do something, you know, active. I remembered I wasn’t half bad at basketball back in the day, so I thought, “Hey, maybe I can teach some kids how to play?”

First thing I did was hit up the internet. I was looking for places where I could maybe start coaching. I typed in a bunch of stuff like “basketball coaching in Guwahati,” “sports training in Six Mile,” and even “basketball academies in Guwahati.” Man, there were tons of results! I spent a good few hours just scrolling through, checking out different places like this Skylark Sportz place in Ganesh Nagar, Basistha, some academies in Rehabari, and a few other spots. It was a bit overwhelming, to be honest.
After all that online digging, I narrowed it down to a couple of places that seemed promising. I grabbed my phone and started making calls. I talked to a few people, asked about their programs, the timings, fees, all that jazz. Some places were super organized, others, not so much. It was a real mixed bag.
Next, I actually went and visited a few of these places. I wanted to see the courts, meet the coaches, and get a feel for the vibe, you know? Some places were great, with really nice facilities and experienced coaches. Others were a bit run down, and the coaches seemed, well, less than enthusiastic. It was definitely an eye-opening experience.
While I was doing all this, I also started brushing up on my own basketball skills. I found some pretty cool training videos online, on a YouTube channel, I think. They had everything from shooting drills to dribbling exercises. I spent a few evenings practicing in my backyard, much to the amusement of my neighbors, I’m sure. Felt good to get back into the swing of things, though.
- Visited Skylark Sportz, checked out their facilities.
- Called a few academies in Rehabari, asked about coaching opportunities.
- Practiced dribbling and shooting in my backyard.
- Watched some online basketball training videos.
After all this groundwork, I finally decided to volunteer at a local sports academy. It’s not a super fancy place, but the kids are eager to learn, and the head coach is a really experienced guy. I started by assisting him during practice sessions, helping with drills and giving some pointers to the kids. It’s been challenging, but also really rewarding. Seeing the kids improve, even just a little bit, makes it all worthwhile.

The Takeaway
So, that’s my story so far. It’s been a journey of research, phone calls, visits, and a whole lot of practice. I’m still learning the ropes, but I’m definitely enjoying the process. It’s amazing how much you can learn just by putting yourself out there and trying something new. And hey, who knows, maybe I’ll even become a decent coach someday! We’ll see what happens. Stay tuned!
