Okay, so I’ve been getting into collecting vintage football jerseys lately. It’s a pretty cool hobby, and I wanted to share how I got started and some of the things I’ve learned.

First Steps: Finding Some Jerseys
First thing I did was, start looking, you know? I wanted to get my hands on some actual vintage jerseys. I started by checking out some local thrift stores. It’s a bit of hit or miss, sometimes you find amazing stuff, other times, nothing at all.
I spent a couple of weekends going from store to store. It felt like a treasure hunt, and honestly, that was part of the fun.
- Checked local shops.
- Looked at online marketplaces.
Figuring Out What’s Real (and What’s Not)
After getting a few jerseys, I realized I needed to figure out if they were actually vintage, or just, like, old-looking. So, I hit the internet. I found a bunch of forums and groups dedicated to this kind of stuff.
It was kind of overwhelming at first, all these people talking about stitching and tags and manufacturers I’d never heard of. But, slowly, I started to pick things up.
I learned to pay attention to the materials. Older jerseys tend to have a different feel, kind of heavier, less synthetic than the new stuff.

Cleaning and Caring for the Jerseys
Once I was pretty sure I had some genuine vintage pieces, I had to figure out how to take care of them. I definitely didn’t want to ruin them by washing them wrong!
I did some more research, and found out that hand-washing is usually the safest bet. I use a gentle detergent and cold water, and I always let them air dry. No dryers!
I even bought some special garment bags to store them in, to keep them protected from dust and light.
Building the Collection (and the Addiction!)
Now, I’m always on the lookout for new additions to my collection. It’s become a bit of an obsession, to be honest! I love the history behind each jersey, imagining the games they might have been worn in, the players who might have worn them. Each one has own small history.
It’s a fun hobby, and I’m learning something new all the time. Hope this gives you a little insight into how I got into it!
