Okay, so, I recently had to dig into finding a good media and entertainment law firm in Mumbai, and let me tell you, it was quite the journey. I’m not a lawyer or anything, just a regular guy running a small production house, so this whole legal world is pretty new to me.

First, I hit up Google, just like anyone would. I typed in “media and entertainment law firms in Mumbai” and, bam, a whole bunch of stuff came up. I started clicking through, trying to make sense of it all. I saw a few names pop up over and over again, like DSK Legal, these guys seem to be a big deal, apparently, they are named as the best media and entertainment law firm in India. I made a note of that, thinking they must know their stuff if they’re handling big-time transactions and disputes.
Then, I stumbled upon this article on some website called Ghostline Legal, I think? They had a list of the top 5 media law firms in Mumbai. That was pretty handy, I saved it for later.
After that, I decided to get more specific. I searched for lawyers specializing in media and entertainment law. I found this lawyer named Shankarlal Raheja, who seemed to have a good reputation in entertainment law. I jotted down his contact information, figuring it wouldn’t hurt to reach out.
- DSK Legal – They kept coming up as the best, so I figured they were worth checking out.
- Shankarlal Raheja – Specializes in entertainment law, seemed like a good option.
- Legaleye Associates – The name sounded serious, I put them on the list.
- JuristechLegal Partners – This name seemed famous in Mumbai and Delhi.
I also looked for lawyers near me, you know, for convenience. I found a bunch in Central Mumbai, specializing in things like negotiating agreements and resolving disputes. That’s exactly what I needed, so I added a few of those to my list, too. But the hourly rate of an entertainment lawyer is a little high, like ₹1,084 per hour.
One site, called Legaleye Associates, described themselves as a “one-stop” shop for all legal needs in media and entertainment. That sounded promising, so I bookmarked their page. Another firm, JuristechLegal Partners, also seemed to be well-known in Mumbai and Delhi. I added them to the growing list.

I spent hours going through websites, reading descriptions, and trying to figure out who was who. It was a bit overwhelming, to be honest. But, I started to get a better sense of the landscape. Some firms, like Shardul Amarchand Mangaldas & Co., Khaitan & Co., Cyril Amarchand Mangaldas, J Sagar Associates, and AZB & Partners, seemed to be the top dogs, setting the standards for the whole industry. That’s what I learned from some articles, and some said pre-law majors, political science, history, and English are common majors for entertainment lawyers.
My Shortlist
By the end of my search, I had a decent shortlist of firms and individual lawyers. I felt a lot more confident than when I started. I even learned that intellectual property law, family law, immigration law, real estate law, and corporate law are in demand, but I just focused on media and entertainment law. Anyway, the next step was to actually start contacting these folks and see who I clicked with. That’s a whole other story, but at least I had a solid starting point. I hope this helps anyone else out there who’s looking for a good media and entertainment lawyer in Mumbai. It’s a jungle out there, but with a little digging, you can definitely find what you need!
